There is an old saying; hope for the best, but plan for the worst. Texas Democrats must plan-and prepare-for the worst as we move forward into the 2022 election cycle.

As another old saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

The 2020 attempted intimidation of the Biden/Harris Texas Bus Tour and the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol are both rotten fruit of the same poisonous tree-The Big Lie about the 2020 presidential election result. @POTUS Biden won and now Trump Republicans are committed to a strategy of voter intimidation; Black, Hispanic and Asian voter suppression; racially discriminatory gerrymandering; and rigging election boards to steal the 2022 Midterm elections and the 2024 presidential election as part of a diabolical plan to bring Donald Trump back to the White House.

These are the stakes in the upcoming 2022 Midterm elections.

Republicans aren’t playing. They don’t care about rules, respect or civility. All they care about is staying in power by whatever means they have to use including ignoring, breaking and replacing the rules. Republican justices on the Texas Supreme Court and United States Supreme Court are their accomplices in undermining our democracy, undermining our right to vote, undermining equal protection under the law for the LGBTQ+ community and undermining women’s right to choose.

Texas Democrats, we must become more proactive and assertive in fighting back against this Republican onslaught. We can’t keep doing what we have been doing. We need a new strategy, new tactics and new leaders in elective and party offices.
