Hon. Carroll G. Robinson

Judges are elected to protect our democracy; the rule of law, our constitutional rights, civil rights and civil liberties.

Over the course of our nation’s history, judges have become the primary source of independent decision making we turn to for a fair and unbiased decision to protect our life, liberty and pursuit of happiness as well as the operational integrity of government and our constitutional structure of checks and balances.

Sadly, in Texas, our Texas Supreme Court is no longer an independent and unbiased protector of our rights, liberties or the integrity of our state’s constitutional structure of checks and balances.

The Texas Supreme Court, over the past few years, has become nothing more than a simple extension of the Texas Republican Party and the extreme public policy agenda being pushed and promoted by Governor Greg Abbott, Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, Attorney General Ken Paxton and Republicans in the Texas legislature-The APP gang.

To better protect Justice and Democracy in Texas, we must continue to elect experienced and well qualified Democrats as judges-from Justice of The Peace Courts, County Courts at Law and District Court Judges to Texas Courts of Appeals, Texas Supreme Court and Texas Court of Criminal Appeals justices.

In 2022, and beyond, electing Democratic judges must be a top priority of Texas Democrats all across the state, up and down the ballot.

The United States Supreme Court, in its recent decision allowing the Texas fetal heartbeat abortion ban to take effect, stated that the proper place to challenge the ban was the Texas state court system. This is the second major public policy issue the U. S. Supreme Court has said should be decided in state court. The Supreme Court has also said that the issue of so-called extreme partisan gerrymandering-in reality, racial discrimination in redistricting-should also be decided in state courts.

These are just two examples of many, why in 2022, and beyond, state judicial elections must be a top priority for Texas Democrats and our donors.

Finally, you need to know that Republican state legislators are trying to impeach Democratic judges for doing their job.

You can disagree with a judge but they can’t be impeached for doing their job and making a decision that is overruled on appeal. If that is the standard for impeachment-being overturned on appeal-then we will no longer have independent judges in Texas and the rule of law no longer matters or means anything. What Republican legislators are trying to do with their proposed impeachment bills is intimidation that will ultimately end in chaos and anarchy.

Remember: Elect Democratic Judges To Better Protect Our Democracy and To Better Protect Our Rights.
